Message from the Chair
Hello playschool families,
A reminder that we have our library program up and running outside the classroom. It is an honor system, so please enjoy the books. This was all made possible due to the fundraising efforts of this year (chocolates and bingos) and several past years. Great job everyone!
Important dates in March:
- March 4 – Committee Meeting (6:30-8:30pm) – Lymburn School library
- March 2 – Toy Cleaning 6:00pm
- March 6 – Family Dance at Lymburn School 5:30-7:30pm
- March 18- CLCP Open House 4:30-6:30pm
- March 23, 2017 – March 27, 2017 (inclusive) – No School –Spring Break
Our Family Dance & Silent Auction will be held on March 6th from 5:30pm – 7:30pm at the Lymburn school gym. Invitations have been sent out in your child’s mailbox. Please make sure to fill them out and get them back to your Class Reps. This helps us with how much food to buy and also gives us an idea of how many people to expect. Please feel free to invite other friends & family from outside of the school to attend. This is a family friendly event and there are a lot of great items up for grabs at the silent auction. We will also be able to accept credit & debit cards for payment of items at the auction. General admission and food concession purchases are cash only.
The open house in January went very well. Thank you so much to everyone who helped get the word out on Facebook and beyond, and to both of our teachers for their excellent work in representing our fantastic playschool. Registration for 2020/2021 school year is open to the public and we still have spots available in the 3am class and also both afternoon classes. You can see we are holding a second open house on March 18th so please keep broadcasting this to families in the west end, especially if they have children who will be 3 by September! Our current families are always our best advertisers
Looking forward to seeing everyone at the dance!

Tuesday/Thursday Tidbits
Happy March, Tues/Thurs Families!
Hopefully we will get a little more mild weather in the coming weeks so that you can enjoy a bit more of the white fluffy stuff and your community skating rink! Maybe the approaching Spring weather will bring us a reprieve from all of the big and little viruses that everyone has been battling over the past few months!
Our theme for the whole month of March is “Community Helpers”. This will give us many opportunities to explore different helpers around us, for example: health care workers; grocery clerks; pet care experts; school staff; emergency personnel; etc. Using this theme, we will continue to build our fine motor skills with scissors and controlling markers, crayons, and paint brushes. We can keep finding opportunities for number and letter recognition. Have you noticed that your children are beginning to recognize their friends’ names as well as their own? They now see the names on their name tags, the check-in tags, the snack place mats, and the water bottles and enjoy helping each other find their names and comparing who has the same starting and ending letters.
A common theme in our class lately has been playing games from the games cupboard. This usually entails a grown up helper sitting with them to walk them through following simple rules and taking turns. These are concrete activities that are helping your children build social and interactive skills with their classmates. Sometimes this looks like an increase in conflict, but it really means that your kids are learning that they have social relationships with children and adults outside their family units. These relationships often look like more active and loud or silly play (even during circle time), but really mean that your wee ones are moving on to a new stage in their development and growth.
We have three full weeks (meaning a week with a Tuesday and a Thursday class), so we will be able to fit three more Star Student turns in. Some of the kids have been waiting SO LONG for their turns!
When you look at the calendar, you will see that we have our Glow Yoga make-up sessions on March 10th – send your child in comfy clothing that day please. Also, we will wrap up our Community Helpers month with a field trip to the Sweet Pea cafe playhouse on the last class in March (the first Tuesday back after Spring Break). I will give you the address closer to the date.

Greetings Playschool Parents!
Happy March!
This month our theme will be Community Helpers. We will have fun exploring a variety of careers – dentists, fire fighters, chefs….even the classroom will undergo some transformations to support all the learning that will go on. On March 13th we will be Little Chefs and make our own pizzas. To conclude our unit, we will have a “career day” on March 20th. Please have your child dress up in a career they would like to do when they grow up. It is so amazing to watch these precious children dream about their futures!
On March 11 we will be going on a field trip to the Sweet Pea Café. This field trip will fit perfectly with our Community Helpers Theme. The kiddos will get to play police officers, doctors, eat in a diner and so much more! Please drop your child off at the Café and pick them up at the times listed on the calendar. Another special day will be our St. Patrick’s Day Celebration. We will celebrate this on Monday, March 16th. Please send your child in green this day (Parent Helpers please bring Lucky Charms and milk.
One of the best events of the year is our Family Dance and Silent Auction, which will be held in the Lymburn School Gym on Friday, March 6th from 5:30-7:30. This night is a fun event for the whole family, and is one of our biggest fundraisers. Get your tickets from your class reps as soon as possible.
And I just wanted to thank-you so much for all of your participation in the Heartfelt helpers activity. The children are so proud of their accomplishments! I hope it was fun to see them hard at work being good helpers!
Thanks again for all you do,
Teacher Cathey
